The Directory General Overview The Framework is based on the three components of sustainability: Environment, Economic, and Social. Within each component key risk areas have been identified. The framework follows a standard format for each risk area, detailing background information, relevant legislation and standards, Codes of Practice and programmes with descriptions and links. This section of the Framework provides possible resources for those who are considering developing or refining a Sustainable Management System. The first level provides details on the relevant legislation for the area in consideration. The next level provides information on standards and guidelines which can be linked to a SMS. In addition for each component part of an SMS there are examples of programmes or guidelines which maybe of assistance to those who are developing an SMS
