Cultural

In New Zealand the special relationship between Maori and Pakeha is recognised through the Treaty of Waitangi, with the Principles of the Treaty having been incorporated into some recent legislation.

The linkages between the cultural dimensions of New Zealand society form part of consideration of sustainability of an industry or business, in particular legislation requirements to consult with tangata whenua.

The natural environment is particularly important to Maori and issues such as heritage and kaimoana are integral to a stewardship approach to the land.

The Directory includes sources of information about Maori perspectives as well as projects that have been undertaken to develop relationships across cultures.
